Ian

Ian Wickes as Egeus in YYT's 2012 production of 'A Midsummer Night's Dream'

Chairman

ian@yyt.org.uk

Ian started singing in music festivals at the age of twelve, in Sussex, where he lived as a boy.

His interest in theatre and musical theatre grew from these early beginnings and he has been involved in all aspects of amateur dramatics for over 40 years. Although he has no formal training in the Arts he has had many years of experience both on and off stage, performing in musicals and plays and working backstage and front of house.

Ian first became a 'fan' of YYT when acting as the National Operatic & Dramatic Society's Regional Representative for South Somerset when he saw their production of 'Les Miserables'.

Since then he has rarely missed a performance and has been actively involved on stage, off stage and as a committee member since being invited to play 'Doc' in YYT's 'West Side Story' in 2008.

Having been involved with a number amateur groups over the years, Ian has played leading roles in many plays and musicals including playing 'Hysterium' in Steven Sondheim's 'A Funny Thing Happened On The Way To The Forum' three times in 1976, 1997 and 2012. His favourite leading role being 'Bill Snibson' in CUDOS's 2004 production of 'Me And My Girl'. He has also directed plays and pantomimes and was privileged to direct YYT in Shakespeare's 'A Midsummer Night's Dream' for the 2011/2012 Royal Shakespeare Company Open Stages initiative. YYT were subsequently selected to perform a small section of 'The Dream' at the Nuffield Theatre in Southampton.

Demanding high standards, Ian is constantly surprised and extremely proud of the talent, dedication and professionalism displayed by all of YYT's young people he has had the privilege to mentor in recent years.

Ian served in the Royal Navy for over 20 years, studying Electrical & Avionic Engineering at Yeovil College and Aeronautical Engineering at the Royal Naval Engineering College, Manadon in Plymouth. He is currently a Principal Trials and Evaluation Engineer working on the Royal Navy and RAF EH101 Merlin Programme.

Alan

Vice Chairman & Artistic Director

alan@yyt.org.uk

Alan’s involvement in performing arts started at the age of five. He trained with the Royal Ballet Junior Associates and spent five years at Elmhurst School of Dance and the Dramatic Arts. Having attained his exams up to Advanced level in ballet, modern and tap, he was forced to stop due to injuries. Alan then began to perform with local amateur societies.

In 2005, he made his directorial debut with the enormously successful Fame – The Musical for YYT, followed by Oliver!, Schools will Rock You, West Side Story, Footloose, Our House, Billy Elliot, Grease, The Addams Family and Annie all for YYT. He also co-directed and produced CATS for YYT and directed The Sound of Music and Sister Act for Taunton Amateur Operatic Society.

Vikki

Choreographer & Social Media Manager

vikki@yyt.org.uk

Victoria is the newest member of the Yeovil youth Theatre committee and was a member of the company for 4 years.

Victoria has been performing from a young age; starting ballet classes at two years old and being a member of CUDOS in Crewkerne since the age of 7. Victoria joined YYT in 2009 and played the part of Wendy-Jo in Footloose. Victoria also went on to perform in Our House, Billy Elliot and Cats with the society.

Having trained at the University of Chichester for three years, Victoria graduated in October 2016 with a first class degree in Musical Theatre. Whilst at University, Victoria performed in ‘Peter Pan’, played the role of Mae in a touring production of ‘The Pajama Game’ and performed in Musical Revue ‘Starting Here, Starting Now’ under the musical direction of Julian Kelly.

Victoria moved back to her hometown of Crewkerne here in Somerset and became an adult by buying a house and two cats with her boyfriend! Whilst back in Somerset, Victoria has continued to perform by singing in care homes in the local area and other events with a hope to expand her business performing at weddings and parties. Alongside performing, Victoria also teaches various dance classes at The Dance House in Crewkerne, including adult tap, pre-school ballet, and street dance, and also teaches singing and dancing at Razzmataz in Yeovil.

Victoria believes the experiences she had at YYT prepared her for a career in performing and will always have fond memories of YYT and the people she meet and worked with.

Karl moved back to Yeovil from Scotland in 2016 where he worked as a production manager and ran the company social marketing campaign.

After moving back to Yeovil, Karl put himself forward for election onto the town council and won a by-election in May 2017

Karl also has a keen interest in theatre and live performances and tries to attend a show every few months if time will allow.

Karls hopes to have many years helping out and expanding Yeovil Youth Theatre.
